    Guide to Application

Should you wish to apply to a university outside the UK that is not included above, please send an email to info@kusumatrust.gi detailing why you consider this university a centre of excellence for your chosen course. The Trustees of the Trust shall then evaluate your proposal and will let you know whether the application will be considered.

Please note that even at eligible universities, only students who have already secured a place for a course in one of the following areas will be considered:

    • Medicine
    • Technology/Engineering
    • Business

    * Note that the criteria for an Excellence scholarship in fine/performing arts, sports and humanities will be very constrained by the fact that only one scholarship will be given in these areas unless the panel and trustees exceptionally exercise their discretion. It is essential that candidates have secured a place with the relevant institution in the area of study before an award can be made.
    NB.
Only in exceptional circumstances, and in the absolute discretion of the trustees, will applicants continuing their studies at a university other than those listed above or studying a course other than one related to the courses set out above, be considered to receive a scholarship under the Scheme.
In the case of application for performing arts/fine arts or the sports scholarships only recognised leading institutions outside the listed universities will be considered by the panel. For example, in the case of music, the Royal Academy of Music might be considered. To ascertain whether your chosen institution is eligible please email info@kusumatrust.gi detailing why you think it meets the excellence criteria. You will then be informed if the application will be considered.

    Joe Bristow:

‘The Kusuma scholarship has been indispensible to me. Remaining alive without your mum costs more than one might think. It turns out that rent, food and travelling can be rather expensive.
There are also a lot of fun things to get involved with at university. At Cambridge a scholarship is especially useful because they do not let us find employment during term time. It has been really great being in control of my own budget and not requiring help from my parents.

The Kusuma Trust also provides useful links and contacts. Three of us scholars set up Unilink Gibraltar to help inform students applying to university. The Trust was incredibly helpful. They got a Cambridge admissions tutor to fly out to Gibraltar to give a series of talks to sixth form student.’
